The President
– John Jenkins

John Jenkins was elected President of WAMDSAD in 2003.
Since joining WAMDSAD in 1975, John Jenkins has been one
of the driving forces behind the major fundraising campaigns
necessary to build and open the Clubhouse at Braywick Sports
Ground, Maidenhead in 1982 and its subsequent extension in
1996. John has been responsible for developing the Club, which
provides sports opportunities and facilities for the disabled.
More recently he has been instrumental in introducing a professional
profile to the Club involving major restructuring to ensure
better management of its fundraising and day to day activities.
John is well known for his enthusiasm irrepressible good
humour, modesty and ability to inspire others.
John contracted poliomyelitis at the age of 5 and has since
always used a wheelchair for daily living and participation
in sport. Educated at Lord Mayor Treloar College, he developed
a keen interest in sport, taking up table tennis and swimming
seriously in his early twenties. He has won medals at regional,
national and international level and competed for England
and GB in many countries around the world, including the Paralympics
in 1984.
Having gained so much from sport John has always endeavoured
to help other disabled people achieve their goals, and he
is now actively involved with several regional and national
committees dedicated to providing opportunities and facilities
wherever possible for the disabled to participate in sport
for competition or recreation.
Although John has been involved in a tremendous amount of
voluntary work over many years he has had a successful business
career in information technology and now has his own established
consultancy in Shurlock Row where he now lives.
