NO AIRS or graces were put on when the Mayor and Mayoress of Maidenhead and Windsor visited the laid-back fun sports night at Wamdsad, a sports club for the disabled, on Braywick Road, on Friday.
Organiser Val Jones' philosophy on the one-year-old, twice monthly, informal evening is it should be a place where youngsters with disabilities can do sports of their choice with siblings who do not have disabilities, while parents can relax over a drink at the club's bar.
And so the Mayor, Cllr Mike Bruton (Lib Dem, Belmont), himself a wheelchair user, and his wife Jo, joined in activities while youngsters with and without disabilities played pool, table tennis, ball games and chatted. Cllr Bruton said: "We wanted to see what goes on I have and it looks great fun."

The club, which also organises trips like water-skiing, fishing and other activities youngsters suggest, is also run by young volunteers from Newlands and Desborough schools.
Mrs Jones said: "The children can see what's available to them, rather than being told by adults what to do and if someone says 'I want to try that' we will try and organise it."
Parent Claude Grant, from Laburnham Road, was with her 14-year-old daughter Julie, who has cerebral palsy. Mrs Grant said: "Everyone can be comfortable and free and just enjoy themselves. It is great and the staff are so dedicated."
