WAMDSAD raise £30K for Disabled Athletes - 4 November 2003

A Grand Charity Ball held at Ascot racecourse, organised by WAMDSAD (Windsor Ascot Maidenhead District Sports Association for the Disabled), has raised over £30,000 for their own Paralympian members and other local disabled athletes. The profits will be split between the British Paralympic Association and WAMDSAD.

The event was attended by over 300 people, including celebrities Sir Steve and Lady Redgrave, Clare Balding and Tony Garrett from the BBC, and were entertained by Bobby Davro and Fay Presto, with the Tornados and Steve Bowles of Penguin's Disco's providing the music until the early hours of Sunday.

Superbly organised by the club Fundraising Committee, the Ball was acclaimed a huge success. Liz Hornby, Administrator at the Braywick club, enthused, "We've received dozens of e-mails congratulating us and asking for the date of next year's Ball! We owe a huge vote of thanks to all those who came to Ascot and the many individuals and businesses that supported us with sponsorship, donations and prizes. Thank you!"
