MAIDENHEAD hit the airwaves on Tuesday evening when Radio 5 Live's popular programme Any Sporting Questions? was broadcast live from disabled sports association Wamdsad on Braywick Road.
The panelists were England and Lions rugby player Lawrence Dallaglio, Wycombe Wanderers manager Lawrie Sanchez, member of the British Paralympic wheelchair basketball team Claire Strange and former 400m runner Derek Redmond. It was hosted by sport journalist Mark Saggers.
More than 170 people, including Wamdsad members, saw the panel debate sporting issues including foreign people coaching national teams, the cost of attending sporting fixtures and whether there was still pride in playing for your country.
The BBC was invited by Wamdsad chairman John Jenkins. He said: "I have a contact in Radio 5 Live who got in touch with the production team.
"They came to have a look at our facilities and here we are.
"I hope it will help to raise the profile of disabled sport around the country."
Programme editor Gill Pulsford said: "We do the programme all year and we ask people to offer us venues and then we try to get right around the country.
"Coming to Wamdsad is a great opportunity to promote disabled sport.
"The centre is wonderful. We like clubs like this. A lot of the audience will know each other which makes for a good atmosphere."
After the programme, Derek Redmond, who famously limped home in a 200m race at the Barcelona Olympics, said: "I have had a good time, it was relaxed and great fun. I think everyone here had an enjoyable evening."
