Wamdsad staged another hugely successful annual sports day at their Braywick headquarters on Saturday.

Sponsored by the Michael Shanley Group, the event attracted 130 competitors from clubs as far away as Southampton, Gosport and Winchester, with more travelling from Farnborough, Wokingham, Wycombe, Chalfont, Aylesbury and Kingston.

There were 23 events in all, ranging from archery and air weapons to track and field, and a lot more in-between, with each competitor allowed to enter up to 13 events.

The highest number of entries in any one event was more than 100 in the skittles, while 90 entered into the various throwing events.

Mick Mitcham, sports manager at Wamdsad and organiser of the games said: "I must say a very big thank-you to all the girls who helped from Newlands School.

"Every year they come and assist in running all the track and field events, plus others when needed. Without them we could not run so many events. Thank you"

At the end of the day, the club handed out 225 medals and two trophies.

The first major piece of silverware went to the club with most points on all track and field events, which was Wamdsad with 35 points.

Second was Farnborough with 29 points, and third Southampton with 24 points.

The second trophy of the day went to the club with the highest number of points overall, which was again Wamdsad, who retained the cup for the fifth year running on 111 points. Second were Aylesbury, with 94, and third Farnborough, with 62.

Overall the 30 competitors from Wamdsad collected 69 medals. In the juniors' six-year-old wheelchair user, Josh Hewlett of Wamdsad in his first ever games collected four medals, while Anthony Hornby, also of Wamdsad collected the highest number of junior medals with eight.

In the seniors, with a total of seven medals, the overall individual winner was yet again a Wamdsad member, Richard Barton.
